leader killed Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden in Pakistan and has his body in his possession, less than ten years after the bloody attacks of September 11, 2001, announced last night the U.S. President Barack Obama in a televised speech.

U.S. forces around the world were put on alert after the dramatic announcement that ends almost a decade of obsessively hunting the most wanted man in the world.

"Tonight I am able to announce to Americans that the United States carried out an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda, a terrorist responsible for killing thousands of innocent people," Obama said in a solemn speech from the White House.

Bin Laden, who had served 54 years on 10 March, died in a U.S. special forces operation in the town of Abbottabad, north of Pakistan, 130 km from the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, said.

"A small group of Americans led the operation with a courage and an extraordinary ability. No American was injured. (Special forces) took care to avoid civilian casualties, "the president said, his face serene but visibly pleased.

United States is holding the corpse of his enemy, said Obama and said his capture had been "The number one priority" of his government.

The operation started last August when the U.S. government obtained an accurate track of the whereabouts of the head of Al Qaeda.

Even before Obama's announcement, the news had leaked to the world media and social networks.

Hundreds of people gathered quickly to the White House in a festive atmosphere, and Washington car blew the horns in celebration.

Bin Laden's death is "a victory for America," responded the ex-president George W. Bush (2001-2009), whose term was marked by the attacks in the USA on 11 September 2001, which killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

United States took a quick war in Afghanistan a few weeks after those deadly attacks, which disrupted all its geostrategic objectives in the world.

Bin Laden did not become caught then, and the game became a long winded operation that mobilized all the forces of U.S. intelligence.

The State Department immediately launched an alert to all U.S. travelers.

"Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens where recent events could lead to anti-American violence should definitely limit his travel, "the alert said. Pakistan confirms

A senior Pakistani intelligence services, who requested anonymity confirmed Monday that Bin Laden was killed in a "delicate operation", without giving further details.

Without specifying whether the local intelligence services involved, the source said only the AFP news agency: "It was an operation very sensitive nature of intelligence."

Bin Laden's footprint was lost after the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the U.S. put a price on his head: $ 25 million.

Several heads of EU, including, recently, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, had said in recent years that bin Laden was in the remote tribal areas of northwestern Pakistani.

the capital, Islamabad, is just a few hours drive of some of these tribal areas, the remote and inaccessible retreat of the Taliban Pakistanis, Al-Qaeda allies, considered by the U.S. as the main sanctuary of Al Qaeda the world.

northwestern tribal areas bordering Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, where there are currently some 140,000 foreign soldiers, two thirds of whom are American.

Pakistan has been a U.S. strategic ally in its "war on terror" launched against bin Laden and his allies in the region after the 11-S for almost a decade.

In London, British Prime Minister said today that the death of Bin Laden, is "a great relief to the people of the world", said an official.
